Mac care

Low on Mac storage? Understand it before clearing it.

Storage cleanup starts with understanding, not deletion. Back up important files first.

01

Check the system overview

Open Storage in System Settings and review documents, apps and other categories. Aim to remove things you no longer need, not to reduce every cache to zero.

02

Distinguish files from rebuildable caches

A download may be your only copy. Project archives may be needed for releases or debugging. Rebuilding caches can require time and network access. Save work and close related apps first.

03

Inspect developer data carefully

Xcode, package managers and containers can use substantial space. Check paths, dates and purpose. Large or old does not automatically mean safe to delete.

04

Review and choose with TidyUp

Use category scans to review caches, logs, large files and developer-related content. Inspect each selection before removal and leave uncertain items unchecked.
